I guess it’s a little late in the day for a Happy New Year blog post, but the children only went back to school this week, so I feel as if the year is only just getting started.
I don’t have any specific New Year’s resolutions, other than write more books! My youngest son doesn’t agree with New Year’s resolutions. He thinks that if people want to do something they should just do it and not wait for a new year. He’s quite right of course.
However, I did start off the year with a plan of work which I’ve already ditched so that must be some sort of a record.
I spent the last two months of last year experimenting with a crime novel. The idea was just to try it and see where it took me. I finished 2016 with just over 22,000 words. I was reasonably happy with progress.
I started 2017 with good intentions to pursue this work-in-progress but after only a week and a half I ground to a halt. I really wasn’t enjoying myself. It felt like pulling teeth.
Sometimes it’s important to have the courage to stop doing something.
So I parked my crime novel (I can always go back to it later if I want to) and returned to my Scarborough Fair series. I have two books in this series already, and would really love to make it into a trilogy.
So that’s what I’ll be working on for the foreseeable future. I’ll let you know how I get on 🙂
